Samsung’s One UI 7 update has been met with both praise and criticism, as it appears to borrow design elements from iOS. While some features are a welcome addition, others feel like copying rivals.
One of the most noticeable similarities is the new “Now Bar” on the lockscreen, which displays ongoing tasks such as stopwatches and music. A similar feature called “Live Notifications” can be found in the status bar, but it doesn’t integrate with third-party apps yet.
The update also includes redesigned multitasking pages that are nearly identical to those found in iOS. Additionally, a new battery icon is present, which mirrors Apple’s design. The notification tray and Quick Settings have been separated, similar to iOS, but Samsung has left this feature optional.
However, not all changes are negative. For example, app icon sizes and widget names can be customized, allowing for more homescreen customization options. Furthermore, the update brings several new features that aren’t found in iOS.
In other news, Google has released its first maintenance release on top of Android 15, bringing new features and security updates to Pixel devices. The company has also extended support for the Pixel 6 and 7 to five years after their initial release dates.
