Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-Hee died from cardiac arrest on Tuesday, according to the company. He was 63 and had overseen the consumer electronics and mobile devices businesses since 2022. As vice chairman and CEO, he played a crucial role in leading the semiconductor business.
The company has run into significant headwinds, including trailing behind industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in chip production and memory technology. However, Han had outlined plans to address this through mergers and acquisitions deals in 2025, despite uncertainties around economic policies.
Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering. He previously led the display operation before taking over as CEO of electronics and devices division. His contributions, including rolling out LED TVs, helped demonstrate technology leadership for the company.
