Leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S25 series have sparked debate about the slim variant’s design and purpose. The Galaxy S25 Slim, expected to be released alongside its family members on January 22, appears more like a “slim” model than a significantly thinner phone.
Originally touted as the thinnest option in the lineup, the Galaxy S25 Slim is now reported to be just 6.4mm thick, comparable to the standard Galaxy S25 at 7.2mm and the larger Galaxy S25 Plus at 7.3mm. The Ultra model takes the crown with an estimated thickness of 8.2mm.
Given its relatively modest design distinction, one can’t help but wonder why Samsung created a slim variant in the first place. In contrast, Apple is rumored to be working on a similarly thin iPhone 17 Air, which promises to be only 5.5mm thick.
Concept images suggest that the Galaxy S25 Slim may take the role of a svelte alternative to the Galaxy S25 Plus, boasting a similar 6.7-inch display. This positioning may appeal to those seeking a lighter and more compact option, as it likely weighs less than the standard S25 Plus.
While the slim model might not rival Apple’s iPhone 17 Air in terms of thinness, it could still offer competitive specs, including a triple-camera setup on par with the Ultra variant. Reservations for the unreleased phones are now open, and sales are expected to begin in May.
