Samsung has announced a new trade-in program for its Galaxy devices, offering money-back schemes for used phones without the need to purchase a new handset. The “Galaxy Easy Compensation” scheme will pay owners of older Galaxy phones for their used devices based on condition, with payouts varying between excellent, good, and recycle categories.
The scheme will be launched in Korea on January 14th and will initially only accept newer models from the last five years, including Galaxy S23, S22, S21, and S20. The list of accepted devices also includes Samsung’s recent foldable and flip phones. The company plans to resell these devices, with refurbished handsets expected to be used.
Samsung aims to improve the value of older Galaxy phones, which is part of its strategy to make Android devices as valuable as iPhones. Recent data shows that Samsung phones are depreciating at a slower rate with every release, and the new scheme may help rehabilitate the image of Android handsets in the public consciousness. The company has also confirmed plans to extend the scheme to France, with pilot programs launching on January 14th.
