Samsung has launched a new trade-in program called Galaxy Easy Reward, allowing customers to sell their old smartphones without having to buy a new one. The program, which launches on January 14 in Korea and is expected to expand to other regions later, will enable Samsung to purchase used devices from various phone recycling centers.
The Galaxy Easy Reward program accepts a wide range of Samsung phones, including the Galaxy S20 series, S21, S22, and S23 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 3, 4, and 5. However, newer models like the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are not included.
Phone values will be estimated at first, with final prices determined once the device is returned. The system will grade phones as “Excellent,” “Good,” or “Recycle” based on their condition. Samsung also plans to purchase non-Samsung devices, although the details of this aspect are unclear.
According to Vice President Jung Ho-jin, the program aims to increase the long-term value of Galaxy products and contribute to a circular economy. By boosting the used value of its phones, Samsung hopes to attract more buyers to its new models, as seen in the strong resale market for Apple iPhones.
The initial launch is limited to Korea, but expansion to other regions is planned for the future.
