Samsung has released a critical security update for its Galaxy users, patching one critical and 21 high-severity vulnerabilities attributed to Android’s July security package. In contrast, Google has failed to release any significant security patches in its July security bulletin.
The update comes at a time when Samsung is racing ahead with the general release of One UI 8, which includes major privacy and security enhancements for eligible phones. Meanwhile, Pixel users are also without security patches for their devices, highlighting the disparity between Samsung’s and Google’s approach to Android updates.
Samsung’s complex update process versus Pixel has long been a point of contention. The company often faces delays in OS upgrades and doesn’t offer seamless updates for all devices. As a result, Galaxy owners are urged to update their phones as soon as possible to address the numerous security patches available.
The lack of security patches from Google is particularly concerning for older Android devices that can only run up to Android 12. With Google no longer providing updates for these phones and its latest Play Integrity API causing some apps to malfunction, it’s essential for users to consider upgrading to newer devices running Android 13 or later.
