Samsung Leaks Multi-Fold Phone Design

Samsung has seemingly leaked its design for an upcoming “multifold” phone, a device that folds into three panels with a unique hinge mechanism. The leak comes from the latest One UI 8 build update, where animations show off the trifold’s layout, camera setup, and NFC location.

The device is rumored to be called the Galaxy G Fold, although it’s labeled as Multifold 7 in the leaked animation files. Samsung first teased this new foldable at its Unpacked event in January alongside a basic illustration of what appears to be a triple-screen phone.

According to the leak, the trifold will have a large triple-camera setup on one panel and a front-facing camera on the central cover display. When folded shut, the front-facing camera is located on the right-hand panel. The device’s design suggests that it won’t have the same flexibility as Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design, which uses a Z-shaped folding mechanism.

The leak highlights two different hinge mechanisms – one for the left-hand display and another for the right-hand panel. This indicates that Samsung has designed its foldable with specific limitations to prevent damage or improper use. The device is expected to be officially unveiled next week at Samsung’s Unpacked event on July 9th, where it may also reveal updates to its Z Fold and Z Flip devices.

Note: As this information has not been confirmed by Samsung, some details should be taken as speculative until an official announcement is made.
