Samsung is gearing up to launch its own tri-fold foldable smartphone, competing with Huawei’s recently announced Mate XT. The device will have a unique folding mechanism that protects the flexible screen when folded, unlike Huawei’s design.
Production for the tri-fold phone is set to start in the second quarter of 2024, with an expected launch date between July and September. This timeline aligns with Samsung’s annual foldable device launch schedule. The phone’s screen will measure 9.9-10 inches in size when unfolded.
Samsung plans to release at least four foldable smartphones this year, including the Galaxy Z Flip FE. The company is reportedly considering removing the digitizer from the Galaxy Z Fold7 to make it thinner, following Chinese companies like Honor that have been gaining ground in the thinness segment.
The tri-fold phone’s chipset is yet to be confirmed, but it may use the Exynos 2500 chipset, which was initially planned for the Galaxy S25 series. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip FE will utilize the Exynos 2400e chipset for a lower price point.
While Samsung has expressed concerns about durability in foldable devices, its own recent releases have experienced issues with screen longevity. Specifically, Huawei’s Mate XT faced problems with screen lifespan due to the exposed edge design.
Stay tuned for more updates on Samsung’s tri-fold Mate XT foldable phone as launch details become clearer.
