Samsung has unveiled its latest smartphone concept at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. The device, which is part of the Galaxy Z series, features a tri-fold design similar to the Flex G and Asymmetric Flip prototypes showcased by Samsung Display.
The tri-fold design aims to eliminate the centre crease found on traditional clamshell foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Flip6. However, the current concept still leaves a gap when closed, raising durability concerns. Additionally, the taller profile of the device may not be ideal for users who prefer the compact form factor of previous Galaxy Z models.
Despite these limitations, Samsung Display’s development of tri-fold panels confirms that the technology is being explored for both clamshell and larger book-style devices. However, there are no guarantees that the Asymmetric Flip will make it to market, as Samsung Electronics typically releases devices directly.
