Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event and the launch of the Galaxy S25 family are expected at the end of January 2025. However, one device that is not expected until later in the year is the Galaxy S25 Special Edition. According to reports, this slimline variant will be released in the second quarter of 2025.
The production run for the Galaxy S25 Special Edition is expected to be around three million units, which is significantly smaller than its main counterparts’ expected sales of 35 million units. This conservative approach may indicate that Samsung expects demand to be limited and wants to avoid overstocking their handsets.
The device’s slim design and high-end camera features are likely to push it into “luxury” territory, with a price premium that will impact demand. Despite this, the phone’s design and technology could attract fans who prefer thinner devices.
The Galaxy S25 Special Edition is not expected to be widely available, but its release timing coincides with other major smartphone launches in Q2, including Apple’s iPhone 17 Air and Google’s Pixel range. This could give Samsung a first-mover advantage and allow it to define this new form factor.
While the phone’s exact release location is unclear, its predecessor, the Z Fold Special Edition, was initially only available in China and South Korea. The popularity of foldable phones has been rising, but regular smartphones remain more popular overall.
