Samsung is finally entering the consumer market with its own PCIe Gen 5 SSD, the 9100 Pro series. The new lineup features three capacities (1TB, 2TB, and 4TB) and is expected to launch in March. This marks Samsung’s first pure PCIe Gen 5 SSD for consumers.
The 9100 Pro boasts impressive speeds, with theoretical maximum random read and write speeds of 2,200K and 2,600K IOPS, respectively. It also features sequential read and write speeds of up to 14.8GBps and 13.4GBps, making it roughly double the speed of its predecessor, the 980 Pro.
Samsung’s new SSD is built with NVMe 2.0 technology and uses a custom controller on its V Nand TLC V8. The 9100 Pro will be available in an M.2 form factor with or without heatsinks. An 8TB configuration, a first for Samsung NVMe SSDs, is scheduled to arrive later this year.
This new offering positions Samsung as a major player in the consumer PCIe Gen 5 market, providing users with faster storage options and future-proofing their systems until PCIe Gen 6 arrives.
