Samsung has announced two new foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, along with a cheaper version of its flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The company’s aim is to entice buyers to make the switch to foldables.
The main additions to Samsung’s foldable phone range are the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which folds like a book, and the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which takes on the form of classic clamshell-style flip phones. The company has also introduced a cheaper version, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
Thinner and bigger devices with better cameras and AI features are part of Samsung’s new generation. However, some critics argue that physical design alone won’t be enough to convince users to switch to foldable phones from touchscreen slabs. Software innovations will play a crucial role in differentiating these devices.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 6.5-inch cover screen and an 8-inch main display when opened. It features premium cameras with a 200-megapixel main lens, as well as two front cameras on both the cover screen and main display. The device is capable of 24 hours of video playback.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a 4.1-inch cover screen and a 6.9-inch main display when opened flat. It comes with a 50-megapixel main camera, as well as a bigger 4,300 mAh battery that supports 31 hours of video playtime on a single charge.
Samsung is also introducing the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, which starts at £849 in the UK. The new devices will retail from £1,049 and £1,799 respectively.
Samsung’s AI-powered camera features include an automatic object eraser tool and an audio eraser that detects unwanted background noise. The company has used Google’s Gemini language model for its AI features since last year.
