Samsung Unveils One UI 8, A Minor but Noteworthy Update

Samsung has been working on One UI 8, a minor update that builds upon the features of its predecessor, One UI 7. Unlike previous updates, which have provided significant enhancements, One UI 8 appears to be a more incremental release. The new features are mostly those that Samsung could have included with One UI 7 but didn’t.

The most notable addition is support for log video recording in the camera app, which debuted on the Galaxy S25 series and was previously only available for the Galaxy S24 series with the One UI 7 update. This feature allows for smoother and more efficient video recording.

One UI 8 also introduces improvements to the Quick Share feature, now divided into two sections: Receive and Send. This change makes it easier to share files with other Android devices.

Some minor user interface changes have been made, including shaded buttons in the quick settings panel. However, these changes may be temporary or dependent on specific devices.

The update is based on Android 16 and will bring several under-the-hood changes. Some new features, such as lock screen widgets, are only available on Pixel devices and unskinned versions of Android.

One UI 8 is still in the development phase, and Samsung has yet to announce a release date or confirm its availability for existing devices. The company may not have time to add more features or allow beta testing before the device launch later this year.
