Samsung has taken a bold move by launching its mid-range phones, the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36, to rival its flagship series. While the high-end Galaxy S25 remains the best of the bunch, these new mid-rangers have some exciting upgrades that make them feel like a better deal.
Fast 45W wired charging is one of the key features on both devices, which may seem underwhelming compared to other devices from China but is currently the maximum charging speed on Samsung phones. The vanilla Galaxy S25, however, is only equipped with 25W wired charging, making it an embarrassing move by the company.
The situation is no better when it comes to software updates. Samsung’s One UI 7 update, which was supposed to bring Android 15 to a large number of devices, is currently only available on the Galaxy S25 series and some mid-range phones like the A56, A36, and A26. The delay has been six months since the release of Android 15, while other devices have received updates in record time.
The situation serves as a reminder that Samsung has been complacent with its flagship lineup for years. Cameras and charging speeds haven’t seen significant upgrades, making the compact Galaxy S flagship the most “unloved” device in its roster. The introduction of mid-range phones with better hardware features is simply disappointing.
In comparison to Apple’s recent move, which delayed the release of contextually aware Siri features until 2026, Samsung’s situation seems more puzzling. However, it’s clear that the company needs to take a closer look at its software update strategy and consider the importance of upgrading its flagship devices regularly.
