Samsung has started testing HDR screenshot support in its upcoming One UI 8 update, and the results are promising. The feature, which saves screenshots as PNGs with metadata like gain maps, ensures that colors and contrast remain true to the original image.
The latest test beta for One UI 8 is already showing positive signs, with reports of improved HDR screenshot quality. This means that when you take a screenshot of an HDR-enabled content, it will retain its full color palette and contrast.
Unlike standard screenshots which default to SDR, HDR screenshots bring back the vibrancy and depth of the original image. This is especially noticeable in scenes with detailed textures or bright colors.
The feature has been spotted in the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra running One UI 8 ZYF7 beta, and there’s a good chance it will roll out with the public beta. While beta features are often subject to change, the fact that HDR screenshot support is already live in the closed beta suggests a promising development.
With One UI 8, screenshots of HDR content should now look more like their original counterparts, without any loss of detail or vibrancy. This update promises to enhance the overall user experience and make screen captures even more reliable.
