Families of victims in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting have reached a settlement with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, paving the way for the sale of his Infowars platform. The deal, announced at a court hearing on Monday, gives Texas families $4 million, plus 25% of future sales, while Connecticut families receive much larger judgments.
The agreement comes after courts in both states ruled that Jones defamed the families by spreading false claims about the shooting being staged. However, the families had previously disagreed on how to divide Jones’ assets after he declared bankruptcy in 2022.
Under the new deal, Texas families will be paid $4 million, with $1 million paid within seven days of court approval. They will also receive 25% of future payments made to Connecticut families. The settlement has brought an end to a dispute that had delayed the sale of Jones’ Infowars company.
The bankruptcy trustee is expected to evaluate new bids from companies, including First United American Companies and the Onion, before seeking court approval for a new auction.
