After a quiet transformation, NY Bagel & Deli on Wilshire Boulevard has emerged as New York Bagel Deli & Bakery. The husband-and-wife team, Lenny Rosenberg and Adaeze Nwanonyiri, have revamped the space with redesigned booths, warm lighting, and a vibrant bakery case showcasing rainbow cookies and chocolate rugelach.
The couple, who purchased the deli in February, has maintained the traditional recipes while adding a fresh layer of polish. The bakery case now central to the shop’s layout features a rotating selection of treats from their other venture, Bea’s Bakery in Tarzana. Almost all baked goods are trucked in from the Valley each morning.
Rosenberg and Nwanonyiri, who have spent over a decade reviving bakeries across Los Angeles, aim to honor tradition while refreshing the look and feel. Their acquisition of the shop came at a time of heightened local tension, but they remain unfazed. The couple has weathered economic crashes, 9/11, and the pandemic without losing a single business.
The revitalized deli features new red booths, plush furniture, and shade canopies in the outdoor seating area. A monthly live music series is now part of the weekend schedule. The couple recently released a cookbook, It’s a Sweet World: Recipes from Around the Globe at Bea’s Bakery, which showcases recipes rooted in Jewish and Nigerian traditions.
