Saquon Barkley addressed his team’s decision not to let him play in the season finale, which would have given him a chance to break the NFL single-season rushing record. The Philadelphia Eagles star expressed that he was “down” about missing out on the opportunity, citing an added motivation after sleeping on it.
Barkley spoke with Head Coach Nick Sirianni and told reporters that his family also wanted him to break the record. His father reportedly took the news the hardest. However, Barkley now accepts the decision and prioritizes helping his team win in the playoffs over breaking a personal record.
With 2,005 rushing yards this season, Barkley is 100 yards shy of Eric Dickerson’s record. Despite having fewer carries than required to set the mark, Barkley says he may never get another opportunity like that again.
