Saquon Barkley’s New Deal Raises Questions About Derrick Henry’s Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles’ signing of Saquon Barkley to a two-year extension worth $41.2 million in new money has raised questions about the potential contract extension for Ravens running back Derrick Henry. The deal, which locks up Barkley through 2028, makes him the first running back to earn $20-plus million per year.

Henry’s current deal with the Ravens expires after this season and is reportedly worth $16 million plus incentives that could boost the total to $20 million. Despite his impressive first season in Baltimore, where he rushed for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns, Henry has yet to secure a significant pay increase.

General Manager Eric DeCosta has expressed interest in extending Henry, but no details have been released on potential new deal numbers. The Ravens are known for their best-player-available draft philosophy, but ESPN’s Jeff Zrebiec predicts they will be looking closely at edge rushers in the first round of the upcoming draft to bolster their outside linebacker group.

Meanwhile, other free agents such as wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and left tackle Ronnie Stanley have been linked to the Ravens. However, ESPN’s Dan Graziano predicts that Stanley will sign with the New England Patriots, citing a hypothetical four-year, $100 million contract offer that includes $65 million guaranteed.
