Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its stance on establishing ties with Israel, saying that any normalisation would require a Palestinian state. The foreign ministry stated this in a firm and unwavering position, which is not negotiable.
The move comes as the US continues to push for Saudi Arabia to follow other Arab countries like the UAE and Bahrain, which have already established ties with Israel. However, the Gaza war in October 2023 led to Riyadh shelving plans, amid Arab anger over Israel’s actions.
Establishing ties with Saudi Arabia would be a significant prize for Israel, given its vast influence in the Middle East and wider Muslim world, as well as being the world’s largest oil exporter. The US is now set to take control of the Gaza Strip after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere, according to President Trump.
