A team of researchers from China, the UK, and the US has unraveled the mystery behind Uturuncu volcano’s persistent unrest. Combining seismology, physics models, and rock composition analysis, they identified the cause of the volcano’s deformation, alleviating fears of an imminent eruption. The study, published in PNAS, reveals that the “zombie” volcano’s unrest is due to the movement of liquid and gas beneath the crater.
