A new study published in Science Advances suggests that immersive technologies such as virtual or augmented reality may soon allow people to experience a wide range of tastes virtually. The developers of “e-Taste,” a small cube measuring 15 millimeters on each side, have successfully created a system that can replicate the sensation of different flavors using electric sensors.
The concept is based on existing VR technology, which already excels at recreating visual and auditory elements of experiences that transcend space and time. The e-Taste system takes this idea to the next level by incorporating electric sensors to mimic the sensations associated with eating or drinking various substances.
