Scientists Discover New Super-Earth 154 Light-Years Away

Astronomers have discovered a new exoplanet, dubbed TOI-1846 b, located about 154 light-years away from Earth. This super-Earth is nearly twice as large and four times as massive as our planet. The discovery was made using NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and confirms the planetary nature of the exoplanet through photometric observations.

According to researchers, TOI-1846 b completes an orbit around its host star every 3.93 days at a distance of about 0.036 AU from it. The planet’s equilibrium temperature is estimated to be around 568.1K. This suggests that TOI-1846 b is likely a water-rich super-Earth.

The discovery contributes to the growing list of confirmed exoplanets, with over 7,600 potential candidates identified so far by TESS. A team led by Abderahmane Soubkiou from Morocco’s Oukaimeden Observatory made this groundbreaking find, further expanding our understanding of the universe and its potential for life beyond Earth.
