Scrubs Reboot in the Works as Bill Lawrence Returns

A long-discussed revival of the hit medical comedy series Scrubs is officially underway. ABC, which produced the original nine-season run from 2001-2010, has partnered with 20th Television and creator Bill Lawrence for a new project. The reboot has been a topic of discussion among Lawrence and the show’s cast, including Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke.

Lawrence expressed enthusiasm for the project in 2022, stating that he would “do it” if given the chance to work with his desired collaborators again. However, he will not serve as showrunner due to a rich deal at Warner Bros. TV, which has granted him permission to work on Scrubs.

As of now, no cast or off-camera talent deals have been secured for the reboot. The project is currently in its early stages of development, with Lawrence tossing around several ideas, including one that would feature original cast members alongside new interns.

Lawrence has a prolific output, having co-created Ted Lasso and Shrinking, both streaming on Apple TV+, as well as an upcoming HBO comedy starring Steve Carell. His Scrubs reboot is the latest addition to his growing slate of projects.
