The Chicago Bears’ season is nearing its conclusion after a 6-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football. Fourth-year LG Jake Curhan’s disastrous performance sealed his fate as he was routinely beaten and made two key penalties that cost Chicago points.
Curhan, an undrafted free agent, has proven he’s not suited for starting or depth roles. The Bears’ lack of investment in their offensive line during the offseason is paying off in a major way. Ryan Poles will likely struggle to re-sign Curhan.
Curhan’s mistakes included a holding penalty that wiped out a touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to Rome Odunze and another false start on 4th-and-1, which put Williams in an impossible situation. The front office needs to make clear decisions to improve line play next season, especially regarding pass blocking. With Pro Football Focus ranking Curhan 100th out of 129 qualified guards, his future with the team is uncertain.
Despite being only 26 years old, Curhan is not yet ready to be a solid player. Ryan Poles must address the elephant in the room and make necessary changes to improve the Bears’ line play.
