The Seattle Seahawks’ offense is off to a promising start in their preseason, with a 33-16 win over the Kansas City Chiefs showcasing the team’s ability to run the ball effectively. The Seahawks rushed for 268 yards on Friday night, the most they’ve had since 2022.
“We’re just plugging away,” said coach Mike Macdonald of his team’s efforts. “Our offensive line coaches are doing a heck of a job… We want to be playing our best football throughout the season, but keep getting better all the way from here on out.”
The success of the run game was evident in the performance of players like George Holani and Damien Martinez, who both had solid days. Martinez scored his first NFL touchdown, while Holani finished with 49 yards on five carries.
“It’s just a different type of vibe in the room,” said right guard Anthony Bradford. “We all love it. I’m seeing a lot of great strides that I haven’t been seeing in myself the previous two years, so I’m excited to see where it keeps going from right now.”
The Seahawks’ offense put up 477 total yards and had 29 first downs, with Brady Russell saying he was pleased with the team’s physicality and decisiveness. Coach Macdonald praised his players for their determination and hard work, saying that the success of the run game will open up new possibilities for the offense.
“I think it’s a driving force behind what we’re doing,” Macdonald said. “There is no gray. There is no changing things… These are the rules; this is how we identify it.”
