Sean Combs Denied Bail, Sentencing Hearing Set for October 3

Sean Combs, hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur, will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing scheduled for October 3. A federal judge denied Combs’ request to be released on bail pending the hearing, citing evidence of physical violence and coercion against his ex-girlfriends during the prostitution-related crimes.

Combs was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years. He had previously been denied bail multiple times, both before and after the trial, due to concerns about his safety as a flight risk.

Combs’ defense attorneys argued that he does not pose a danger to others and that there is no legal precedent for keeping him in custody solely on prostitution convictions. They claimed that Combs and his long-time girlfriends had a private life that was not uncommon today, despite the Mann Act’s original intent being passed in 1910.

However, Judge Arun Subramanian disagreed, stating that Combs’ circumstances did not change since he was last denied bail. The judge cited evidence of physical violence against Combs’ ex-girlfriends, including a hotel security footage showing him assaulting Cassie Ventura, as well as concerns about his flight risk.

Combs’ defense team has also filed a motion for acquittal or retrial on the Mann Act charges, but Judge Subramanian has yet to respond. The mogul is currently being held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his sentencing hearing.
