Sean Kingston has been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison for his role in a $1 million wire fraud scheme. The “Beautiful Girls” singer, 35, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud alongside his mother, Janice Turner, 62.
The sentencing comes after a five-day trial in March where the jury convicted both Kingston and Turner of all charges against them. They still face state-level charges in Florida related to Kingston’s home being the subject of a SWAT raid in May 2024.
Kingston’s lawyer stated that the singer is “taking this as a learning experience” and plans to move forward in a positive direction. The mother-son duo conspired to defraud and obtain money and property through false pretenses between April 2023 and March 2024, using Kingston’s celebrity status to persuade vendors to make purchases prior to full payment.
Some of their ill-gotten gains included three watches valued at $765,000, a car worth $160,000, and audio/video equipment worth $40,000. Kingston had his bond terms modified after his conviction, requiring him to serve time in home detention with electronic monitoring and pay over $200,000 cash to the U.S. District Court for Southern Florida.
