Second Eaglet from Southwest Florida Eagle Cam Dies After Sudden Seizure

A second eaglet from the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam has died after suffering a seizure, according to officials. The eaglet, E24, passed away two days ago, leaving its sibling, E25, deceased as well.

Eaglet 25’s condition worsened around 3 a.m., causing it to have seizures similar to those experienced by its previously deceased sibling, E24. The cause of the seizures remains unknown, but wildlife experts, including Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW), Inc., were called to collect the eaglet’s remains for a full necropsy.

The Southwest Florida Eagle Cam has been monitoring the health of the eaglets’ parents, M15 and F23, who are still actively caring for their two hatched eaglets, E21 and E22. The camera will continue to stream live, allowing viewers to observe the ongoing situation.

The nest’s history dates back to 2012, when a camera was first placed six feet above the nest to capture the daily lives of eagles Ozzie and Harriet. Since then, several cameras have been added to monitor the nest, which has witnessed various events, including the death of eagle Ozzie in 2015.

In 2022, Hurricane Ian destroyed the nest, but M15 and F23 rebuilt it just days later. The couple welcomed new eaglets, E21 and E22, in 2016, and later lost Harriet to an “intruder” in February 2023. M15 recently returned with his new mate, F23, and they are now caring for two hatched eaglets.
