Secret Service aware of Elon Musk’s deleted post about Biden, Harris

The US Secret Service is “aware” of a social media post by Elon Musk that stated no one was trying to assassinate President Joe Biden or Vice-President Kamala Harris. The tech billionaire later deleted the post and claimed it was intended as a joke.

Musk’s comment came hours after a suspected attempted assassination of Donald Trump at his golf course in Florida on Sunday. Trump has vowed to enlist Musk to run a “government efficiency commission” if he wins re-election.

Many users criticized Musk’s post, which featured a raised eyebrow emoji, with some alleging it was a form of incitement against the US President and Vice-President. The White House condemned the post, calling the rhetoric “irresponsible.”

“We don’t comment on matters involving protective intelligence,” the Secret Service said in a statement. “However, we do investigate all threats related to our protectees.”

Musk later deleted his initial post and claimed that people didn’t find it funny because they didn’t know the context and delivery was in plain text. He has been a vocal supporter of Trump and has often tweeted or re-posted messages critical of Biden and Harris.
