Selena Gomez Chooses Iconic Anthem ‘Who Says’

Selena Gomez is reminiscing about her music past with fondness, particularly a standout track from her early days as part of the pop-rock band Selena Gomez & the Scene. In an interview on the Therapuss podcast, Gomez revealed that “Who Says,” the lead single from their 2011 album When the Sun Goes Down, remains her favorite song from that era.

The track peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in July 2011 and has a powerful message that resonates with Gomez to this day. She shared that performing “Who Says” is what motivates her to tour again, citing it as a reason she hasn’t hit the road since 2016.

Gomez noted that if she were to perform it today, she’d have to sing it an octave lower due to changes in her voice over time. However, she’s open to re-recording the track, acknowledging that her original vocals sound “young.”

The Rare Beauty founder also discussed the song’s empowering message and how it made her emotional during a trip abroad. Gomez credited the song with helping her grow as a person and still finding relevance in her life.

In another part of the interview, Gomez reminisced about bonding with longtime friend Taylor Swift over breakups with the Jonas Brothers nearly two decades ago. The two have since become best friends, supporting each other through life’s ups and downs.

Gomez recently released a joint album with fiancé Benny Blanco, I Said I Love You First, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in May.
