Senators Push Against Trump’s Venezuela Aggression

A bipartisan group in the Senate plans to force a vote on legislation that would bar US military action inside Venezuela without explicit congressional authorization. The move comes after the Senate rejected similar measures to curb President Trump’s attacks against alleged drug runners in the Caribbean Sea. Despite long odds, lawmakers want to put Congress on record about reining in Mr. Trump’s escalating and legally questionable military campaign against Venezuela. A group of senators, including Tim Kaine, Adam B. Schiff, and Rand Paul, are working together to block President Trump’s covert CIA actions in Venezuela and prevent potential war. The measure would require explicit authorization from Congress for any military action “within or against” Venezuela.
