Serbia Students Mark 100 Days Since Train Station Collapse

Belgrade, Serbia – Hundreds of students blocked major roads and bridges for seven hours on Sunday, marking the 100th day since a deadly train station canopy collapse in Novi Sad. The protest was part of a campaign by striking students who blame government corruption for the November 1 incident that killed 15 people.

Protesters also held a 15-minute silence and threw white roses with red paint into the Sava river, symbolizing their demand for justice. Demonstrators blocked three roundabouts in Novi Sad, further escalating tensions.

President Aleksandar Vucic has described the protests as an “attempted color revolution” and accused protesters of receiving foreign support. In recent weeks, tens of thousands have joined near-daily protests, prompting Vucic to submit his resignation and several high-ranking officials to step down, including Prime Minister Milos Vucevic.

Germany’s Christian Democratic Union has urged stability in Serbia, with German lawmakers expressing concern over the impact of instability on Western Balkan investments. The government is under pressure from protesters who are demanding accountability for the train station collapse.
