Nintendo’s iconic Super Smash Bros. series continues to delight fans worldwide with its diverse character roster and addictive gameplay. However, some features are still lacking, making it difficult for players to enjoy online matches, improve their skills, and experience a richer single-player campaign.
To address these concerns, we’ve compiled a list of the seven must-have features that Nintendo should incorporate in the next Super Smash Bros. game:
Firstly, rollback netcode is essential for a smooth online experience. The current implementation can lead to frustrating lag and buffer issues, making it hard for players to compete fairly. By implementing rollback netcode, Nintendo can ensure a more enjoyable online experience.
Next, proper online lobbies are crucial for the game’s overall success. With the current system, players are often forced into matches with rulesets they don’t want to play. Adding lobbies for doubles and squad strike would make these modes viable outside of local play, enhancing the overall gameplay experience.
Better training is also necessary to help players improve their skills. While the Training Mode in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is excellent, it still lacks specific tutorial missions that target mechanics like DI, SDI, and Teching. By adding these features, Nintendo can support the next generation of professional Smash players.
The Stage Editor has improved significantly over the years, but sharing custom stages remains a challenge. A more user-friendly method would allow players to discover new and exciting stages, making the game even more enjoyable.
Mii Fighters need more variety, with new classes and customization options. Adding heavyweight, animalistic, and spellcasting variants of existing Mii Fighters would provide players with more options and make the characters more engaging.
A single-player story mode is also overdue. With an expansive roster, fans crave character interactions and rich storytelling. A return to the Spirit Mode’s success in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl would be a welcome change.
Lastly, Nintendo needs to address its competitive support for the series. By acknowledging the series as a fighting game and providing support for professional players, Nintendo can help repair the rift with the community.
By incorporating these seven must-have features, Nintendo can create the best Super Smash Bros. game yet, bringing together Melee fans and other communities on the Nintendo Switch 2.
