Severance has been renewed for a third season on Apple TV+, the streaming service announced just hours after the second-season finale. The show, created by Dan Erickson and executive produced by Ben Stiller, has become Apple’s most-watched drama series to date.
Erickson expressed excitement about continuing the series, saying, “The idea of making more Severance with our talented cast and crew is thrilling.” Stiller echoed this sentiment, stating that working on the show has been creatively exciting and that season three will be just as enjoyable.
Apple CEO Tim Cook also reacted to the news, writing a tweet that read, “Season 3 of Severance is available upon request,” signing off with his signature “Tim C.”
The renewal could potentially lead to a more regular release schedule for future seasons. Due to writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023, season two premiered almost three years after the initial conclusion. Showrunner Stiller expressed his desire to establish a more consistent production timeline.
Adam Scott, star of the show, shared his enthusiasm for returning to work with the cast and crew. Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the series, saying that it brings “undeniable magic” to the screen.
The second season has garnered significant attention, with 3.68 billion viewing minutes in the U.S. alone. While exact global figures are not available, Severance is reportedly Apple’s most-watched series worldwide.
