Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after a heated argument with her boyfriend, fellow sprinter Christian Coleman, at the Seattle Tacoma International Airport. The incident reportedly occurred during a security checkpoint.
According to police reports obtained by The Athletic, Richardson got into a physical altercation with Coleman, pushing him multiple times as he walked away. Coleman claimed they were his girlfriend of two years, although they did not publicly disclose their relationship until February.
Richardson was taken into custody and held for nearly 19 hours before being released. She had competed in the preliminary rounds earlier that day, posting a time of 11.07 seconds in the women’s 100-meter competition. The USA Track and Field organization declined to comment on the incident.
Richardson withdrew from the 100-meter final after the arrest, as she already has an automatic bid to the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo as the reigning World Champion. She will compete in the 200 meters on Saturday.
