US track and field star Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after an alleged domestic violence incident at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. According to police reports, Richardson was involved in a verbal altercation with a male companion, which escalated into physical altercations involving pushing and throwing objects.
Richardson was booked and released from jail on Monday. Her involvement in the incident has sparked concerns about her fitness for competing in upcoming track and field events. Despite this, she has announced plans to compete in Sunday’s 200-meter event at the US championships, a qualifying meet for the world championships.
The 2024 Paris Olympics gold medalist and defending champion is currently under investigation by USA Track and Field. The incident is the latest development in Richardson’s already tumultuous career, which was marred by a high-profile suspension for testing positive for marijuana at the Tokyo Olympics.
