Scientists have discovered a houndshark species capable of making clicking noises, challenging the long-held assumption that these predators are silent. Researchers led by Dr. Carolin Nieder found that the rig shark (Mustelus lenticulatus) produces metallic clicks when handled during experiments. This ability to produce sounds intentionally is uncommon in marine animals and sheds new light on the complex communication behaviors of sharks, previously thought to be limited to vibrations and scraping sounds by other fish.
