Mikaela Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson won gold in the team combined event at the Alpine skiing world championships. The Americans edged Switzerland by 0.39 seconds. Stephanie Venier and Katharina Truppe of Austria took bronze.
Shiffrin, a career medalist with 15 world championship medals, tied Christl Cranz’s record set in the 1930s. Johnson secured her second gold medal, winning downhill three days prior. Lindsey Vonn finished 21st overall after teammate AJ Hurt’s slalom performance impacted her result.
The team combined event combines two individuals – one in a downhill run and another in a slalom – with their times added to determine the final results. The new event will debut at next year’s Milan-Cortina Olympics.
