US shoe brands including Nike, Adidas, and Skechers have written to President Donald Trump asking him to exempt shoes from reciprocal tariffs. The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America trade group claims the tariffs pose an “existential threat” to footwear businesses and families, citing low inventories and potential closures. The group says the high tariff rates would increase prices for American consumers and erode the industry’s ability to invest in sourcing changes. With tariffs set to resume in early July, shoe manufacturers are under pressure to adapt to the new regime.
