Shrek 5 Delayed, New Release Date Announced

Universal Pictures has announced a new release date for DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5. The movie was initially set to premiere on December 23, 2026, but it will now be released on June 30, 2027. This change marks a significant shift in the summer release schedule, as Shrek 5 is typically associated with this season.

The film boasts an all-star cast, including Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz reprising their iconic roles as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona. Zendaya has also joined the cast, adding to the excitement around the movie’s return.

Directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, Shrek 5 is being produced by Gina Shay and Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri. The film will be co-directed by Brad Ableson.

This news comes as the Shrek franchise has continued to thrive, with the four previous films grossing $2.9 billion at the global box office. In addition to its cinematic success, the franchise has expanded into live performances, including a Broadway musical and an immersive London attraction.

The original 2001 film won the first-ever Oscar for Best Animated Feature, cementing Shrek’s place in animation history.
