Silo season 3 showrunner Graham Yost revealed that a key character change in the upcoming season was due to the name being too recognizable because of former US President Donald Trump. The change affects congressman Daniel Keene, who is now called Donald in the books but will remain as Ashley Zukerman’s character in the Apple TV series.
In an interview with Radio Times, Yost explained that he wanted to avoid associating his character with the divisive figure due to personal reasons and the name being a “hot button.” He also mentioned his affection for Elton John’s song “Daniel,” which contributed to the decision.
The change marks a significant shift from previous seasons, which largely stayed faithful to author Hugh Howey’s novels. Season 3 will introduce new storylines and explore themes not present in the books, including controlling memory as a result of playing with fire.
Howey previously discussed the challenges of adapting his novel into a TV show, emphasizing the importance of finding characters to carry the story and expanding on their backstories. With Silo season 3 premiering on July 3 on Apple TV, fans can expect more action-packed and unpredictable storytelling.
