Simon Yates Wins Giro d’Italia After Years of Struggle

British rider Simon Yates ended his long wait for a Giro d’Italia victory on Sunday, finishing nearly four minutes ahead of runner-up Isaac Del Toro in the 143-kilometer final stage. The 32-year-old rider from Team Visma Lease a Bike won the overall title after attacking on the gravel-road climb to take the pink jersey in Saturday’s penultimate stage. This is Yates’ second Grand Tour title, following his victory in the Spanish Vuelta in 2018. Despite being “still in shock” of his achievement, Yates has been working towards this moment for a long time.
