Proxmox ecosystem stands out from the rest due to the large number of scripts, packages, and tools created by the PVE community. The Backup Proxmox PBS & PVE System Files repository is a powerful script that simplifies recovery in my Proxmox environment. I’ve configured it on all my PVE nodes and replaced the default vzdump facility with Proxmox Backup Server for improved resilience.
The script’s compression and deduplication features save space, while live restore and granular recovery provisions allow me to quickly access virtual guests even after botched experiments. However, I still have to manually copy config files in case of server failure. The tis24dev script resolves this by backing up entire Proxmox instances, including system files, firewall settings, and network interfaces.
Rsync support makes it perfect for remote backups, and the script can save backup sizes, errors, and metrics to Prometheus or send notifications via Telegram or email. Despite its benefits, the script is relatively easy to run, but requires modification of certain settings for remote nodes.
Overall, tis24dev’s script significantly simplifies my Proxmox backup process, providing peace of mind in case of server failure.
