A biopic about the life of Irish musician Sinéad O’Connor is currently in development. The film, produced by Irish production company ie: entertainment, will focus on her early life and career. Behind the project are Nine Daughters and See-Saw Films, who previously collaborated on “Ammonite.”
Irish director Josephine Decker (“Shirley”) is set to helm the film, working from a script by Stacey Gregg. The Oscar-winning duo of Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will produce alongside Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly, Nine Daughters’ founder. Music heavyweight Tim Clark will serve as executive producer on behalf of ie: entertainment.
The biopic will explore O’Connor’s early life and her rise to global fame. It will examine how she built a music career while also using her platform to bring attention to important social issues, including sexism in the music industry and corruption within the Catholic Church.
BBC Film is funding the film’s development, marking a significant investment in the project. With its focus on O’Connor’s early life and music, the biopic promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking exploration of her legacy.
