Singaporeans are set to head to the polls on May 3 for the country’s 14th General Election, marking a significant milestone under Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the country’s fourth-generation leadership team.
The election will be the first since Prime Minister Wong took office in May last year, and it will see 97 seats across 33 constituencies up for grabs. The contest will feature candidates from 11 parties, including two opposition alliances.
Nomination Day falls on April 23, followed by a nine-day campaigning period that ends with the May Day Rally on May 1. This is the first time full-scale campaigning has resumed since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The main issues at stake include the cost of living and jobs, according to a January survey. With no fixed term for the new parliament, Cabinet ministers will continue their roles until the next sitting.
Singapore’s Electoral Boundaries Review Committee released its report in February, introducing changes to the electoral map with five Group Representation Constituencies and four single-seat wards remaining unchanged from the last election.
