SiriusXM Prepares for Signal Boost with SpaceX Launch

SpaceX is set to launch its 10th radio satellite for SiriusXM, a signal upgrade expected to reach subscribers’ radios. The SXM-9 satellite will be launched via Falcon 9 rocket and is the third in SiriusXM’s fleet to use this technology.

Built by SSL, a subsidiary of Maxar Technologies, the satellite features a large mesh reflector that allows SiriusXM programming to reach its radios, including those in moving vehicles. This upgrade follows previous launches, SXM-7 and SXM-8, which replaced aging Sirius satellites.

The launch is scheduled for Thursday with a 90-minute window starting at 11:10 a.m. The Falcon 9 rocket’s first-stage booster, B1076, will make its 19th satellite launching mission after stage separation. Following the landing on an Atlantic Ocean droneship, the boosters typically return to Earth.

This signal upgrade is expected to improve SiriusXM subscribers’ listening experience, paving the way for a stronger and more reliable connection.
