Six Flags Sees 9% Drop in Attendance in Q2 Amid Poor Weather

Six Flags, the largest amusement park company in the world, reported a 9% drop in attendance for the second quarter of 2025 compared to last year. The decline was attributed to lousy weather across much of the US.

“We’re not using weather as an excuse, but rather acknowledging it’s something we need to navigate,” said Brian Witherow, Six Flags’ chief financial officer. “Extreme weather had a meaningful impact on early season operations.”

The company revised its financial outlook downward for 2025 in response to the weak first half of the year. Shares dropped 21% to $24.33.

Despite this, company executives believe the company will rebound in the last six months of 2025. Attendance figures for July and early August show signs of recovery, with a 1% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

“July has been a turning point,” said Richard Zimmerman, Six Flags’ CEO. “Sales of season passes are climbing fast, and we’re seeing a surge in demand for our parks.”

However, attendance is expected to be affected by the cancellation of several late-year events at smaller parks, as well as cost-cutting measures, including selling excess land near Kings Dominion.

The company’s financial outlook has been revised downward, but executives remain optimistic about the company’s prospects.
