Skenes Urges Team to ‘Execute’ After Fans Boo Opening Loss

Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes believes execution is key to overcoming their struggling start to the season. The team, currently 2-6, has received criticism from fans after a dismal home opener loss to the Yankees. However, Skenes remains confident in his teammates and acknowledges that improvement is necessary.

“We can play a lot better,” Skenes said, emphasizing the importance of executing on an individual basis. “Today is an opportunity to do that, tomorrow is an opportunity to do that. Just gotta go out there and execute.”

Skenes also touched on the negative reaction from fans, who booed during the loss. He understands their frustration but maintains a positive mindset, stating, “We all know how to play baseball. We’ve all played on teams that were winning before… We just got to get back to doing it, get back to executing at a high level and consistently.”

Ultimately, Skenes believes the players are responsible for improving performance. He noted, “We gotta keep doing things right. Mr. Nutting and Shelty aren’t the ones playing. We’re the ones playing.” If the team can improve, Skenes is confident that fans will support them.
