A strike by ski patrollers at Park City Mountain has left guests facing delays and overcrowding during the holiday season, with no refunds offered by Vail Resorts.
The Park City Professional Ski Patrol Union claims a significant number of lifts remain closed due to staffing issues caused by the strike. The union says local management, which is not part of the union, must work or risk losing their jobs.
Guests have expressed concerns about safety and the quality of service, with some even calling for refunds due to the subpar experience. Vail Resorts has refused to offer refunds, instead prioritizing opening safe terrain.
The strike began on December 27 over allegations of unfair labor practices, including bad-faith bargaining and refusal to furnish information. Vail Resorts has shifted the blame onto the union, while the union claims the resort is trying to intimidate striking employees.
Negotiations between the union and Vail Resorts continued on Tuesday with a federal mediator, with plans for further discussions on Thursday. The strike fund set up by the union has raised over $140,000, but reports of harassment from guests have also emerged.
